One of the best Mexican restaurants of all time!!!!

I came to Blythe in 1986 and had lunch at Amapola cafe and was hooked!   They had been open for 30 years prior at that old location on Main Street.   The new location is more convenient for freeway travelers and certainly an upgrade.

The menu is the same.  They make no beans about it.  Expect to have traditional Mexican food made with animal fat.   The salsa is served in little cups and packs a punch.  No scooping needed.  Just light chip dipping.   Order the guacamole for a fresh addition to your chips and salsa appetizer.

This is not fast food, so enjoy the atmosphere.  Your food will take a little more time but is worth the wait.   My favorite dinner is the machaca con verdura.  Beef is grilled into little wires with onion and seasonal veggies.  Roll it into your tortilla with rice and/or beans for a sumptuous repast!

I remember I met the moderator of our local church for lunch not long ago.  He bragged that once in college he and his Huntington Beach buddies drove from Orange County to Blythe for some Amapola, promptly turned around and went back satisfied with their "fix".   A longtime hometown favorite, Amapola cafe,  pick up a tee shirt with the lovely brown eyed water girl as a momento.

My wife and I came in and the person in front said "sit down wherever you want" with a zero fuck attitude. The waitress that took our order was really nice though (she really deserves to work at a better place). We placed our order and waited about an hour for our food to come, we ended up killing two flies in the meantime. What came out to our table was some of the worst food we've ever had, the rice was like biting into a salty onion. We ordered a tostada, it was completely burnt and had zero flavor. The tacos also had zero flavor. Our stuffed pepper was both somehow burnt and cold at the same time. We paid $30 for some of worst food we've ever had.

I regret not stopping into the Taco Bell instead.

Living in Yuma we have some Excellent Mexican restaurants, so by comparison there is none. Service, food, left a lot to be desired AND there was only one other table that had already been served!
After speaking with the wait staff we were still not brought the condiments (which would have made menudo palatable). Menudo had many bones in it. Beers were not cold - the bar was not open during dinner meal time. Manager was not receptive to  our complaints which were lodged professionally!
There were paper towels in the restroom. After a day in the desert we were looking for a good meal-sadly we were disappointed.

Home town Mexican Restaurant. I grew up eating at this place. It's one of my favorite places to get a traditional dish.

Decent Mexican food on your way to and from the beach from Phoenix.  Enjoyed the enchiladas and shredded beef tacos.  Salsa was ok.   Service was very friendly.  The space is seriously in need of a renovation, but it is Blythe, so don't hold your breath.
